Protecting our Community's Values: A Note From Melissa
I started and was the Founding Chair of two Advisory Boards which serve thousands of youth in our community - one for Salt Lake CAPHeadstart which helps below poverty children and families, and the University of Utah Department of Music which has now become a School of Music thanks to the creation of the Advisory Board I created and chaired. Both of these required countless hours of bringing together civic leaders, business leaders, and community members- essential skills for a legislator to work with a vast array of people across the state.
Recently I served on the Davis Chamber Legislative Affairs Committee working with Davis County and Weber County legislators, civic leaders and business representatives to discuss specific legislation and their impact on families and businesses throughout Davis County.
This also illuminated the opportunities and challenges facing Utah today, and the necessity of planning for twice as many people coming into the state of Utah over the next 30 years. Having lived in England for 3 years and more recently in Oregon for 3 years planning for and investing in a greater metro area in the wasatch front is an essential role for the Utah Legislature.
I’m ready to represent you and represent the conservative values that are important to our state!
Davis County is my home.
I was born here. I grew up here. My husband and I have raised six children here. I love this community and the opportunities here.
While generations before us have worked incredibly hard so that we can enjoy this area, there is still much to do. Together, we can make that happen.
My Vision for our State
Our state has one of the best economies in the country. This success has come in large part because of our wonderful quality of life, skilled workforce, expanding businesses, and amazing outdoor opportunities.
Utah is also one of the fastest growing states in our nation. Our population expected to double by 2050. As a state legislator, I will work tirelessly to protect Utah values while also helping to plan responsibly for the growth that will be needed in education, infrastructure, air quality and economic development.
As you consider who will represent your values and vision in the Utah House of Representatives, I would be honored to have your vote.
