Checking In At The Legislature:
September Update

Election season is here. I’m the Republican candidate on the November ballot for Utah House District 20 and would love your support! Email or text me if you are willing to host a campaign sign and I’ll bring it by.

I’m proud to represent you in the Utah House of Representatives. Utah has the #1 economy in the nation for the 13th year in a row! Utah has been highlighted for leading other states with model legislation, a balanced budget, and how we have handled the recession. We have held a record 6 Special Legislative Sessions focusing on COVID budgeting and policy changes. Hopefully, things will settle down in 2021 and we won’t need to have as many special sessions next year. As a legislature, we have allowed mask mandates to be up to individual counties Similarly, the State School Board has had the autonomy to determine their own mask policies throughout the state. The more local decisions can be made, the stronger our state becomes. Many states are closed down and too reliant on State or Federal government help. Meanwhile, Utah is open for business and planning for our future.

I’ve included a link for a Point of the Mountain survey where you can make your voice heard for future development and recreation. This is also a good time to help your families register to vote!

Stay Safe and Stay Open.

Bountiful B Fire Restrictions

Unattended campfires:  Davis County recently adopted an ordinance to prohibit open fires within 500 feet of motorized trails in Farmington Canyon, Ward Canyon (Bountiful B), North Canyon, and the fire break road. South Davis Metro Fire Chief Jeff Bassett played a key role in crafting this change. Bountiful City will be presenting a mirroring ordinance for adoption to cover the portions of Ward Canyon, North Canyon, and the fire break road that are within the limits of Bountiful City to give the ordinance seamless coverage. In the past year since the Gun Range Fire, Bountiful City has engaged with renewed urgency with Davis County and the U.S. Forest Service to address the issues at the B.

Martha Hughes Cannon statue unveiling

Martha’s statue unveiling in the National Statuary Hall Collection in the United States Capitol has been postponed due to COVID 19, so we get to host her at the Utah capitol for a while! Stop by the inner plaza grounds of the capitol to see her. She was the first woman state senator in the United States. She ran against her own husband and 2 other men and won in 1896!

Windstorm and 11 State of Emergency declarations in 2020

Thanks to our great neighbors throughout our communities who have helped to clean up from the extreme wind storm we had. Utah has had 11 State of Emergency declarations: 7 for fires and extreme weather, 2 for civil unrest, and 2 for COVID. This has been an unprecedented year for many things. Are we done yet? I hope so. Welcome to Jumanji Level 9!
