Education and Mental Health Updates

CHECKING IN AT THE LEGISLATURE:
EDUCATION AND MENTAL HEALTH UPDATES

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As your Representative, I want to emphasize the vital connection between education and mental health in our communities.

A strong educational foundation equips our children with the skills they need to succeed and fosters resilience and well-being. It’s equally important that we support our teachers and staff, who play a crucial role in this mission.

In this issue, I've included information about an upcoming town hall event, education accomplishments for Utah, and bill drafts relating to education and mental health.

Warmest regards,

Melissa

Utah School-Based Health and Well-being Programs

This past month, we have made great strides in our effort to improve mental health and education throughout the state.

Our Education and Mental Health Coordinating Council will be absorbed into the new Behavior Health Commission. This is a great achievement for our community as our Council was able to bring together public and private health providers for the first time in Utah! Click here to see some of the work we've done over the last eight months.

Utah: Best in the West for Education

Over the last two years, we as a Legislature have invested over $2 billion into education, and the results speak for themselves. U.S. News & World Report have ranked Utah's public education system as the second best in the nation.

We have worked across the aisle to strengthen school safety, eliminate unnecessary school fees, and increase funding for classroom supplies

KSL: Utah ranks best in US for student debt

With student debt becoming an increasing concern throughout the nation, it is reassuring to know that our efforts to keep quality education affordable have been successful.

Utah has been ranked best in the US for lowest average student debt, ensuring "Utah's public colleges and universities offer affordable education without compromising on quality."
