2022 May Update

Friends and Neighbors,
Campaign season is in full swing! I am working hard to earn your trust and your vote. I have been working hard to:
- Cutting Taxes: Over the past four years, I have worked to cut taxes by $350 million for Utahns.
- Supporting Education: I am a strong advocate for properly funding quality education, voting to increase funding by 9%.
- Preserving Water: I have supported and passed six bills to preserve water and ensure Utah has access to enough clean water.
If you would like to host a sign, please let me know by emailing me directly at info@melissagarffballard.com.

Utah Named State with Best Economic Outlook
For the 15th year in a row, Utah ranked 1st in Rich States, Poor States for its economic outlook. I’m proud of our fiscally conservative, forward-looking, and business-friendly policies that have made Utah a great state to live, work, and play!

Drought Update
As winter ends and spring runoff begins, Utah remains in a drought. Last month, Governor Cox declared a state of emergency due to the state's unprecedented drought conditions. During the 2022 Session, I voted for these water preservation bills. |

Outdoor Recreation
The 2022 general session included millions of dollars in funding for one-time and ongoing outdoor recreation projects and legislation that improves how Utah plans, preserves, and prioritizes the outdoors. In addition to funding, we passed bills prioritizing the sustainable administration of outdoor recreation. Click here to read about long-term investments and upcoming outdoor recreation projects.

Looking Forward To 2023
Last week, we made final recommendations for the 2022-23 budget fiscal year. I am working hard to ensure record-level funding for education, including a $383 million or a 9% increase in ongoing revenue. I am also working to fund water and infrastructure and provide a significant tax cut for the second consecutive year.
