Rep. Melissa Ballard June/July 2026

CHECKING IN AT THE LEGISLATURE:
June/July 2026 Newsletter

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

As America marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence, we have an opportunity to reflect on the principles that have made our nation strong: liberty, self-government, personal responsibility, and the belief that every generation has a role in preserving our freedoms.

Here in Utah, Pioneer Day offers a meaningful reminder of those same ideals. The pioneers who settled our state came seeking opportunity and the freedom to build better lives for their families. Their courage, perseverance, and commitment to their communities helped shape the Utah we know today.

As we celebrate both America's 250th anniversary and Utah's pioneer heritage, may we remember the sacrifices of those who came before us and renew our commitment to protecting the freedoms and opportunities that define our nation.

Warm regards,
Melissa

Declaration of My Candidacy for House District 20

I'm excited to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Utah House of Representatives. I am honored to be the Republican nominee for House District 20, and I look forward to being on the general election ballot this November. It has been a privilege to serve our community, and I'm running for another term to continue fighting for the issues that matter most to the families of House District 20.

Over the past several years, I've worked to protect taxpayers, strengthen public safety, support families, and keep Utah a great place to live, work, and raise a family. While we've accomplished a great deal, there is still important work ahead, and I would be honored to continue serving as your voice at the Capitol.

If you'd like to show your support, I'd love to place a yard sign at your home or business. You can request one here:

I've also put together a video highlighting what we've accomplished during my time in the Legislature and why I'm running for re-election. I hope you'll take a few minutes to watch it and learn more about my campaign.

America 250 "Why I Love America" Event

As we continue celebrating America's 250th anniversary, I hope you'll join me for a special community event hosted by Why I Love America on Monday, August 17, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Utah State Capitol.

The evening will feature a live reading of the Declaration of Independence as we come together to reflect on the principles of liberty, freedom, and self-government that have shaped our nation for 250 years. It is an opportunity for families, friends, and neighbors to celebrate our shared heritage and the enduring ideals that unite us as Americans.

If you're looking for a meaningful way to commemorate this historic milestone, I encourage you to attend. For additional event details, visit the
Why I Love America website.

Bountiful Handcart Parade

One of Bountiful's favorite summer traditions is just around the corner. The Handcart Days Parade will take place on Saturday, July 25, at 9:00 AM, bringing our community together to celebrate Utah's pioneer heritage.

Handcart Days commemorates the thousands of pioneers who crossed the plains between 1856 and 1860, pulling their belongings in handcarts as they journeyed to the Salt Lake Valley. Since 1950, Bountiful has honored their sacrifice, perseverance, and faith through this annual celebration.

The parade is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our shared history, support local organizations, and enjoy time with family, friends, and neighbors. I encourage everyone to come out and take part in this tradition.

June Interim Highlights

Although the General Session has concluded, legislative work continues throughout the year during interim committee meetings. These meetings allow lawmakers to study important issues, hear from experts, the public, and begin developing legislation for the 2027 General Session.
